Erika Wolters is University of Auckland graduate holding a Bachelor of Visual Arts degree. She is a talented painter, focusing on contemporary western celebrity culture and how it influences the female self image. In her work you will see images of women with distorted and misshapen features, representing unnatural transformation; in counterpoint to what they wanted to achieve – ideal beauty.
Her work will provoke a range of emotions – empathy, pity, anger, and sadness. Erika’s aim is to help teens and women identify and deal with feelings of inadequacy in themselves without bowing to media and peer pressure to make themselves into something they are not.
